[Press Conference] CUHK-HKU-UL Conducts World’s First Insomnia Prevention Programme and Proves Insomnia is Preventable in At-risk Adolescents
The Department of Psychiatry of the Faculty of Medicine at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CU Medicine), in collaboration with the Department of Psychology of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Hong Kong (HKU), and the School of Psychology of Université Laval (UL), Quebec City, Canada conducted the world’s first randomised controlled trial of brief insomnia prevention programme for at-risk adolescents. Results showed that there was a 71% risk reduction in the development of insomnia disorder over the 1-year follow up period. A hybrid press conference was held on 04 March 2021. Professor Yun Kwok WING (CU Medicine), Professor Charles M Morin (UL), Dr Shirley Li (HKU), and Dr Rachel Chan (CU Medicine) presented the results and explained the findings of the research study. We are also honoured to have invited Tommy, our research participant, to share his experience of the prevention programme.
